Abstract
The paper is entitled “Metathesis of sounds in the dialect of Al-Saddah and Al-Nadira regions, Ibb, in Yemen”. Dialectology is a contemporary branch of Linguistics. Researchers have much interest in dialectology. Yemen is a source of Arabic dialects, wherein Yemen is a multidialectal community. So, this paper studies the feature of metathesis within one of the Yemeni modern dialects (i.e., Al-Saddah and Al-Nadira), identifying the metathesis of consonants and vowels and its relation to Classical Arabic and other dialects. This research is structured in two sections. The first section presents metathesis of consonants. The second section studies metathesis of vowels. The research results in that dialectology is of great importance to Arabic and its dialects. Moreover, it was found that Al-Saddah and Al-Ndira's dialect undergoes more consonant metathesis. It corresponds to Classical Arabic in certain parts and is distinguished in some others.
