Political and Religious Effects of Tamerlane's Campaign against Asia Minor
Abstract
- aims to highlight the political and religious effects which resulted from Tamerlane's campaign against Asia Minor and the defeat of the army of The Ottoman Sultan Bayezid by him in Ze Al Heja of 804 AH/ July of 1402 AD، the most significant of them are:
- After his victory over the Ottoman Sultan، Tamerlane sought to revive the Turkish Emirates that the Ottomans had seized، as a reward from him to these princes who joined him in his campaign، and fought under his banner in his battle against Sultan Bayezid، so he released the princes and rulers of these Emirates from the prisons of the Ottomans، and returned some of them to their emirates that Sultan Bayezid seized from them.
- The victory of Tamerlane had a great impact in Europe، as the European kings were so glad for that، some of them tried to violate their covenant with the Ottoman Empire and declare their independence such as; kings of Bulgaria، Serbia and Wallachia، as they believed that the Ottoman Empire had ended obliterated.
- Tamerlane's campaign resulted in serious effects which contributed in changing the political map in the entire Asia Minor region، as the campaign and the consequent results in the Battle of Ankara (one of the major disasters which halted the expansion and conquests of the Ottoman Empire)، this campaign led to delay of the conquest of Constantinople for about half a century.
- One of the religious effects which was resulted from Tamerlane’s campaign was the movement Sheikh Noureldin who was known with the name of Ibn Qadi Samawneh، who occupied a of distinguished position in the Ottoman Empire concealed with religion and science. The leader of that movement started promoting for his doctrine which was based on equality among people in money and other holdings، as there is no difference between a Muslim and the others، considering that all religions are equal. His movement included trying to approaching the three divine religions (Islam، Christianity and Judaism).
