Phonological and rhythmical images in Ali Alhasri’s collection ‘Iktirah al karih wa ijtirah al jarih’

Abstract

: This paper aims at exploring the main phonological and rhythmical images in Ali Alhasri’s collection ‘Iktirah al karih wa ijtirah al jarih’. This requires the application of some theories, despite the intricacy of rhythm and sounds in poetry, mainly the Russian Formalists; in order to renew and update theories of rhythm. The main leap was lead by Roman Jakobson and linguistic studies conducted by Todorof who made a bond between text analysis at the phonological level and other linguistic levels such as structural, grammatical, semantic etc…

The selected analysis allow for a comprehensive study of the sound image at different levels mainly parallelism, performance and rhythm.

Procedure-wise, two basic methods will be employed to analyse the data. The first one is the linguistic analysis to differ between paradigmatic and syntagmatic reports. The second is the phonological aspect.

The research concluded that this approach was able to accurately analyze the system of grades between the components that make up the image , and that the phonemic level is not separated from the semantic level. In this regard, it has become clear that there is a strong correlation between the vocal, rhythmic and compositional fields.
