In response to the Saudi government’s declaration of designating the date March 11th as an official Flag Day, this study employs the semiotic approach in the communication and semantics to describes and analyses the different poets’ readings and their emphasis on some of significant connotations towards the symbols of Saudi Flags as indicated in the blog ‘Diwan Al-Alam’. The study concludes that the poets’ direct reading of the Flag’s symbols relies mainly on the referential function to refer to the connotations with transparency and clarity, while their technical readings depend on the poetic function that inserts the pleasure for causing a greater impact. Moreover, their technical readings take the manifestations of semantic expansion, portrayal and novelty as a support for the poetic functions. The most symbols occurred in the poets’ readings are Greenery, whiteness, sword, and the word of monotheism. Keywords: Flag, Poetry, Symbol, Semiotic

This paper entitled “from ontological truth to epistemological truth. A reading into the explanatory adequacy of the grammatical government” is based on the descriptive and comparative approach to summarize the position of critics of the government system in the Arabic grammatical tradition in terms of their view of it as a system imposed on the language from outside it, then it details the nature of scientific truth and its transformations, and shows the relationship between this and understanding the nature of the relationship between reality and theory, and the relationship of this to understanding the nature of the relationship between the studied reality and the explained theory. It shows the grammarians’ perception of this interpretation that they presented, and the impact of the perception in pushing criticisms as criticisms that did not understand the logic adapted by grammarians and the historical contexts in which both grammars; Western and Arabic arose. This study entitled “Qura’nic meditation and crafting a rhetorical question” investigates how the person, who meditates upon the Qur’an, distinguishes between spiritual and intellectual contemplation. The desired intellectual contemplation is contingent upon a deep understanding of Arabic language usages and their methods. Through this linguistic expertise, contemplation transcends beyond mere impression to a realm of perceptible cognition, facilitated by key elements, including uniqueness, differentiation, and the detection of the linguistics. The study comprises an introduction explaining the research concepts, discussions on the significance of the rhetorical question among rhetoricians, the prerequisites that pave the way for crafting a rhetorical question, its definition. The results indicate that the desired mental contemplation is contingent upon a solid grasp of Arabic sciences. The rhetorical question is the one that questions about the essence of meaning, not the initial meaning. The essence of contemplation lies in crafting the authentic question that stimulates reflection on the verses, even if no immediate answer is found. This study is concerned with comparing the text of Ibn Fadlan and the novel Eaters of the Dead, written by Crichton, in terms of the manifestations of the Subject in each of them through its reference worlds and possible worlds. The study began from the text of the letter, as the original text, while revealing the dimensions of the novel Eaters of The dead that contributed to the development of conflicting topics with the topics of the text of the letter, and created various narrative programs, and yet it was able to preserve the structure of the original world of Ibn Fadlan’s letter, by keeping the necessary relationships as they are, and restricting the changes to the essential characteristics. keywords: message, Ibn Fadlan, a novel, Eaters of the Dead, orbits, possible worlds, a reference world.

This study sheds light on the history of the Mazruʿi State in the Mombasa Island in East Africa, from its establishment in 1739 AD until the end of the rule of the Busaidi in 1837 AD. The study aims to understand the political conflicts and competition between the Mazruʿis and the Sultan of Omani, Said bin Sultan, regarding sovereignty over the East African coast. The Mazruʿi state lasted for nearly a century and witnessed the rule of nine different Sultans who attempted to maintain their independence and expand their influence. This study reveals the political inexperience of the Mazruʿi's Sultans and their failure to deal with international relations. It also discusses internal conflicts among the Mazruʿi leaders over power and the conflicts' negative impact on the stability of their rule. In the end, the Omani Sultan successfully overthrew the Mazruʿi Sultanate through military campaigns starting from 1822 to 1837 due to internal disputes and leadership rivalries.  The research entitled “the emotion of love in the Thamudic inscriptions in Ha’il region: A historical and cultural study” examines the love emotion of the inhabitants of the ancient Hail region through their inscriptions, which they have taken to digging on the rocks of this area. This emotion was embodied in a set of short words through which lovers sought to declare their love, some of them concealed their desire to vent this emotion in silence and refused to disclose it. It also aims at examining the concept of love in Ha’il community, in explaning the words expressing this emotion and describing the most important ways used by the Hail residents to preserve love, as well as knowing the pests that affected this emotion and caused the separation of lovers. Finally, the research comes up with a set of influential social, linguistic, cultural, and religious connotations associated with this emotion. Previous research has shown that when a wordlikeness task is used, native Arabic speakers rate spoken nonwords with real roots more Arabic like than nonwords with pseudo roots. That is, they showed an ability to decompose the nonword and identify the embedded root. However, since the wordlikeness task is offline affording subjects unlimited processing time, and other studies used some online tasks that might be confounded, the question remains whether this is the result of a mere conscious process or a part of automatic natural spoken language processing. We investigate this question by comparing the processing time and accuracy rates between nonwords with real roots and nonwords with pseudo roots in an auditory lexical decision task. Native Arabic speakers were slower and less accurate in rejecting nonword with real roots. These findings suggest that automatic morphological decomposition in Arabic spoken word recognition precedes full lexical identification.  Keywords: Morphological processing; auditory lexical decision

This study aimed to enhance the academic writing skills of EFL undergraduate students at Qassim University in Saudi Arabia. A total of 32 students from the Department of English Language and Translation participated in a quasi-experimental study with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The participants were assessed on their writing abilities before undergoing a fifteen-week instructional intervention focused on proper essay formatting, the use of signal words and transitional phrases, and advanced sentence structures. The effectiveness of the intervention was measured through a post-test. Statistical analysis, including one-sample t-tests and descriptive statistics, was conducted to assess the results. The findings revealed significant improvements in the participants' writing performance and other linguistic aspects. However, it is important to note that the students' overall writing levels remained relatively low, aligning with previous research. Consequently, recommendations were made to intensify and diversify efforts in order to elevate the students' writing skills.
